Plymouth Argyle star Graham Carey has been honoured with another award after his impressive 2016/17 season – this time by computer game company EA Sports.

Carey was chosen as part of the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team silver Community Team of the Season on Friday.

FIFA 17’s ‘Ultimate Team mode’ is similar to the concept of a trading card game with players purchasing ‘packs’ and individual cards to build their match squads before playing against each other.

Each season EA bring out special versions of existing cards to reflect the form the footballers have shown in real life.

This includes ‘Team of the Week’ specials and ‘Team of the Season’ ones too.

These cards are much rarer and always have improved statistics than the original card.

So it seems only fitting that Carey has been handed a special card when you consider his productive season for Argyle.

To be eligible for selection to the ‘Community Team of the Season’ players had to have “had consistent seasons but were never selected to the weekly Team of the Week squad” according to EA’s website.

Carey was chosen to play in the CAM position in the silver version of the team. Leeds United striker Chris Wood was the only other England-based player to make the starting XI.

Starting XI

  • GK: Jesper Hensen – Lyngby BK (Denmark) – Denmark
  • LB: Theo Hernandez – Deportivo Alaves (Spain) – France
  • CB: Jan-Arie van der Heijden – Feyenoord (Holland) – Holland
  • CB: Viktor Vasin – CSKA Moscow (Russia) – Russia
  • RB: Emil Salomonsson – IFK Goteborg (Sweden) – Sweden
  • LM: Marc Schnatterer – 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 (Germany) – Germany
  • CAM: Graham Carey – Plymouth Argyle (England) – Ireland
  • CDM: Soualiho Meite – SV Zulte-Waregem (Belgium) – France
  • RM: Denis Bouanga – Tours Football Club (France) – Gabon
  • ST: Francesco Caputo – Virtus Entella (Italy) – Italy
  • ST: Chris Wood – Leeds United (England) – New Zeland

Argyle fans on social media were particularly happy to see FIFA 17 pay tribute to Carey’s wonderful Argyle season.

And many of them celebrated getting hold of a copy of Carey’s special ‘Community Team of the Season’ card.

Sonny Bradley missed out on being chosen for the bronze Community Team of the Season because he was selected in a Team of the Week earlier in the campaign.
