The FIFA 17 TOTS (team of the season) event kicks off later today marking EA Sports celebration of the very best players from around Europe and the rest of the world who have excelled during the 2016/17 season.
As we’ve alluded to before, this is the natural curtain call for the game before EA Sports blows the final whistle and starts looking towards building for next season and the release of FIFA 18, which excitingly we already know will be coming to Nintendo Switch.
While most fans of the Ultimate Team mode will be keen to know which players have made the Team of the Season from their respective leagues – with a 24 man squad expected to be released for the Premier League, Bundesliga, Calcio A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and more – today starts with something a little bit different.
The action kicks off with the release of the Community Team of the Season, which will see three special squads released for each Ultimate Team tier of Gold, Silver and Bronze players.
These players have been entirely selected by the FIFA community on the EA forums and feature a selection of players who consistently performed at the top level all year, but who unfortunately missed out on having a TOTW (Team of the Week) in-form card.
To help wade through the list of players likely to receive an update lets take a look at the squads with some help from FUTnation.com, starting with the Gold Tier squad underneath.
Gold Squad Explained
“Jan Vertonghen and Daniel Carvajal are probably the two stand-out inclusions.” explains FUTNation writer Darren8196.
“Vertonghen has been a rock at the back for Spurs, while the Spanish right back has been a mainstay in Real Madrid’s domestic and European campaigns.
“From a lesser-known view, the inclusions of two young Portuguese wingers – Bruma and Gelson Martins – offers two very pacy, and hopefully affordable, wingers to use in a wide variety of squads due to their links.
“In defense, Mathias “Zanka” Jørgensen improves his perfect link with Jores Okore in what was already a solid defensive partnership for lesser-known hybrids.”
Now let’s move on to that Silver Squad…
Silver Squad Explained
“A few very nice players feature in the silver squad, such as Theo Hernandez,” continues Darren8196.
“The young French defender currently on loan at Alaves from fellow La Liga side Atlético Madrid.
“Saudi center back Osama Hawsawi, who boasts some incredible defensive stats
“And Graham Carey of Plymouth who looks like a great attacking midfielder.
Last but by no means least, we’ll take a look at the predicted Bronze squad…
Bronze Squad Explained
Bronze players may be rarely used, but that doesn’t stop them from having some very impressive stats, and may be well worth trying out,” Darren8196 explains.
“One of the main ones here is John Akinde who will have over 85 in both pace and physical.
“Danish duo Lukas Lerager and Christian Nørgaard could prove to be a solid pairing in central midfield, and easy to form any number of hybrids around due to their league and national links.
“Australian full-back Rhyan Grant is the pick of the defenders, boasting a card which will have at least 65 in all six stats”
As mentioned, the above three squads are the only teams we know will be revealed today, but stay tuned as you can expect the other leagues to come thick and fast like in much the same was as the FIFA 17 Winter Upgrades released earlier this year.
Equally, don’t forget that there will also be an exclusive tournament reward 24th TOTS player, a super Bonus SBC that rewards fans for completing special SBCs every week, TOTS Upgrade SBCs with a chance at a guaranteed 84+ TOTW player and Lightning Rounds.
Stay tuned for more details as soon as we get them.
